In the mid 1970s, Tony Almond decided to leave his job as a taxi driver and work for himself. He and Patricia (his wife) started manufacturing resin chess sets and nativity sets in the back garden of their home.

Small Business Develops

Their small business then developed into a thriving concrete ornament manufacturing business.

1982

Bought An Empty Shop At 29 Brighton Road In Waterloo

Tony bought an empty shop at 29 Brighton Road in Waterloo, in order to expand his business. He started selling his ornaments at various markets throughout Liverpool and the North West.

1990

All 3 Of Tony's Children Completed Their Education And Returned From Their Travels

All 3 of Tony's children had completed their education and returned from their travels. They were now committed to helping their dad expand his business. Val also left her secretarial job and became employed as the company's book keeper.

1994

Tony's Death

Tony sadly suffered a fatal heart attack whilst on holiday in Spain, aged 53. The children and Valerie were determined to continue Tony's legacy and make his business a success and in 1998, the south road shop was bought from Crosby Motor World. This was converted into the garden store and the Brighton road shop was more of a household store. Liz worked in the Brighton road shop and Paul and Tez worked in the south road shop.

2001

Tony's Fifth Grandchild Was Born

Tony's fifth grandchild was born and subsequently named after him, so at last we have another Toni (she's a girl) Almond in Waterloo!

2010

Two Shops Merge Creating The £1 Million Pound Superstore

On October 20th, the two shops were merged creating the 1 million pound superstore that you know and love today, on South Road. All staff came together as one and the new shop opened it's doors for the very first time.

2017

New Website Launched

In October, the new website was launched bringing Tony Almond into the 21st century and putting it in competition with all other online retailers.
